We live in a world that divides our attention every day.

We are inundated with notifications on our phones. It’s difficult to find a minute to yourself when you’re being constantly bombarded with emails, social media mentions, news stories, software updates, and so on.

While it’s nice to be updated on all that’s going on in the world, these frequent interruptions aren’t particularly good for our brains. In a noisy world, where can you find peace and attention?

The answer is surprisingly simple: read.

Here are five reasons why you should make reading a part of your daily routine:

In short, books offer instant access to a world of ideas and open us up to the way other people think. According to a study by the University of Toronto, reading has the ability to improve our personalities because it broadens our viewpoints.
